Buying mining town buildings for a model railway is very expensive. Especially if you want to place an entire mining town on your railway plan.

Luckily, if you are willing to do a little work yourself constructing mining town buildings, you can end up with a huge town for very little cost.

How to make cheap mining town buildings from card stock and balsa wood -- It is possible to buy plans that show you exactly how to make buildings for a mining town, and all you need is a sturdy card, some paper and small pieces of balsa wood.

These plans come with step-by-step instructions, and usually allow you to make between seven and 10 different building designs.

How to build each building -- The plans show you how to build the wooden trestles that are part of many mining town buildings.

They also show you how to construct each of the other buildings from card, foam core and paper.

Once each building is constructed, then all you have to do is to print out the designs that come with each set, and cut around them. Glue them onto the sides of the building you have constructed out of card and foam core and wait for them to dry.

Once they are dry, you can place them on your model railway.

How long will these buildings last? -- Each building is actually quite sturdy in construction, as long as you follow the instructions to the letter.

That means most will last several years, unless they end up in sunlight, in which case the printed designs will fade and you will have to print them out again.

As printing each building out as many times as you want is part of buying these cardstock n scale model railroad buildings, you can always have new looking buildings any time you want to print out another one.
